Paro Civico

So La Paz had one more nasty surprise for us…. a massive civic strike that pretty much shut the city.  We still don’t really know why, all we do know is that the roads were barricaded with rocks and planks and all the cab drivers, shoe shine boys, park workers, cinema staff etc etc decided to take the day off.  This meant that we couldn’t get to the airport and so have had to reschedule everything for tomorrow.

The streets of La Paz are eerily quiet.  The traffic that is normally 4 cars wide on 2 lane roads was completely absent and the roads had been taken over by pedestrians and kids playing football… not too dissimilar from the film 28 days later but with less zombies and more football.

The things to do guide for La Paz is a short book, the things to do in La Paz when they are on strike is more of a postage stamp sized pamphlet so we have spent most of the day in cafes and restaurants planning the next stages of the trip.  Roll on tomorrow so we can finally escape this place!
