Civilised Salta

So,  after another long day in a bus (we have done about 70 hours in the last 6 days) including  a pretty pain-free border crossing into Argentina, we arrived in Salta late evening.  The past week’s accommodation was pretty basic so we had pushed the budget a little and booked into the fabulous Hotel del Antiguo Convento for 3 nights.

Salta is a lovely town in northwest Argentina and is worlds apart from the countryside and salt flats of Bolivia.    We spent the next couple of days doing “western” activities… eating, drinking, shopping in malls, going to the cinema… having hot showers and using electricity!  Not really the “backpackers” way but we just need to become human again and recharge our batteries.  We didn’t really do anything touristy except for watching the changing of the guard and taking a ride up the Telefonica to the top of the surrounding hills to look over the townscape, but it was a perfect three days… just what the doctor ordered.
