I Love Jeri (and so does Kate)

The Jeri we love is the town of Jericoacoara, 6 hours west of Fortaleza.   To get there you take a normal bus for 5 hours and then you change to a special bus to take the coast road to Jeri – and when I say “coast road” I mean the beach.  We transferred into the demon offspring of a school bus and a monster truck and bounced along the sand for an hour until we arrived at Jeri.  A little bit of a trek but so worth it.

Jeri is a stunning beach town in a Brazilian National Park, where all the roads are soft white sand and the transport of choice is a buggy or a horse.  It’s about 3 roads wide and surrounded by dunes and is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been.

We had 2 full days in Jeri and day 1 was about as idyllic as you can get.  After an amazing breakfast we wandered for miles down the wide, deserted beach before sunbathing in the warm white dunes for a few hours.  On the way back we came across a car that was stuck in an inlet while the tide was coming in fast.  Everyone for miles around came to help and we eventually managed to release it before the tide took it.  This earned us a ride back into town in time for sunset where we took part in our new favourite hobby – drinking ice-cold beers and caiparinhas while staring at the sea.  The evening was capped off with a Michelin standard meal and a few more drinks in the bars. Perfect!

On day 2 we booked ourself on a tour of the local sights – by beach buggy of course!  We were soon sitting on the back of a little red buggy being driven at high-speed to such sites as the lazy tree and the blue lagoon before having a slap up fish lunch and returning in time to climb the giant sand dune and watch the sun set (and then practicing our drinking hobby some more – getting really good at it now, almost a black belt)

Jeri is a beautiful, chilled out place and the atmosphere is something special – if we hadn’t booked our bus out we would probably have never left!

PS – Regular readers of this blog may have noticed that I haven’t put many beach pictures up so far… I was waiting for the right beach and this place is it

Kate – there’s only one thing to do. Buy a large beach hut with enough room for friends (small ones, me actually) as a kindness to take them away from freezing, grey British winter days. What a gorgeous place (or I should way, what gorgeous photos of a gorgeous place). I’ll have whatever is in the coconut please.
