Oslo Operahuset

Our first find in Oslo on our day 1 wander was the Oslo Opera House, part of the Norwegian government rebuild of the waterfront due to finish in 2020, but already sprouting a fiercely modern set of mini tower blocks and this Opera house designed to rival Sydney.

It looks a bit odd as you walk up to it – a white block with a glass grimace but it’s designed to be totally interactive and you can walk up all of its sloping roofs at which point you start to love the big shiny beast.

In winter when it snows and the surrounding waters freeze, it’s designed to look like an iceberg peaking out from the frost. In the waters next to it is a mad sculpture of glass and steel that is supposed to move with the tides and inside it’s all towering oak strips and white 3d panels. I can’t imagine you’ve formed a mental picture from that so here’s Wayne and his trusty camera!
